Since the founding of ARCAM as A&R Cambridge in the 1970s, the “A” has stood for amplification. That first product was the A60, with the very first sales made in September 1976. Half a century later, the A50 Signature marks this milestone in the story of ARCAM. It celebrates not only our history, but the enduring principles shared by today’s engineering team and one of ARCAM’s founders, John Dawson. For this anniversary, John Dawson was clear in his intent: the amplifier should look forward, not back. As tempting as it might be to recreate the A60, he felt that such a product would no longer be relevant to how people enjoy music today. Instead, the A50 Signature has been designed as a thoroughly modern amplifier, suited to contemporary listening habits and cultural life. Whether music is streamed from a dedicated streamer, a smartphone, or a television via HDMI eARC, or enjoyed from physical media including CD and vinyl, digital or analogue, the A50 Signature is built to connect effortlessly. It honours the original intent behind ARCAM’s amplification philosophy while supporting every meaningful music source, placing personal engagement at the centre of the listening experience. Beyond its features, the ARCAM A50 Signature represents a genuine first. Class G amplification has been ARCAM’s design of choice for nearly 20 years, refined continuously to deliver greater usable power and lower noise from efficient, elegant designs. In the A50 Signature, this approach takes a significant step forward. This is ARCAM’s first dual mono Class G integrated amplifier. Each power amplifier channel is a completely self contained module, with its own transformer windings, independent power regulation, reservoir capacitors, Class G lifter stage, and dedicated output stage heatsink. Crosstalk between channels doesn’t stand a chance. The same level of attention has been applied throughout the design. The DAC, phono stage, and volume control circuits have all been re imagined to work in harmony with the amplifier architecture.
