Features

  • A compact F2.8 zoom that is ready to go anywhere With a 16-25 mm range that is ideal for scenery, cityscapes, selfies, travel, and general snapshots, this versatile wide-angle zoom delivers beautiful G Lens rendering and bokeh at all focal lengths in a remarkably compact, lightweight design. You get refined large-aperture wide-angle imaging performance for both stills and movies.
  • Outstanding G Lens image quality with corner-to corner high resolution at all focal lengths An advanced optical design using three ED (Extra low Dispersion) glass elements plus four aspherical elements that include one ED Aspherical glass element delivers high resolution throughout the 16-25 mm zoom range in a remarkably compact lens. Flare, ghosting, and color bleeding are effectively subdued for clear, detailed rendering.
  • Peak AF performance with two Linear Motors for precise, fast, quiet focus drive Two specially optimized linear motors and a precision control system acquire focus on any subject with remarkable speed and accuracy. Tracking performance is excellent, easily keeping up with Sony's advanced α9 III camera at up to 120 fps. Precise, quiet focus is smoothly acquired and maintained even when shooting high frame rate 4K 120p or FHD 240p movies.
  • Excellent close-up performance of 17cm (6.72”) at 16mm manual focus Painstaking optical optimization has achieved excellent close-up performance at all focal lengths. Maximum magnification is 0.2x (AF)/0.23x (MF) with a minimum focus distance of 0.18 m (0.59ft) (AF)/0.17 m (0.56ft) (MF) at the 16 mm end of the range and 0.24 m (AF) (0.79ft)/0.22 m (0.73ft) (MF) at the 25 mm end of the range for superb wide-angle close-up performance.
  • Compact, lightweight design for superb image quality and versatility in any situation. Even though it boasts an advanced optical design that includes four aspherical elements, one of which is ED Aspherical, this lens is only 74.8 mm in diameter by 91.4 mm in length (3 x 3-5/8 inch). Engineering plastics enhance durability while reducing weight to just 409 grams (14.5 oz), making this a low-stress F2.8 choice for long shooting sessions or low-light situations.
  • Deep bokeh makes the subject stand out A maximum aperture that remains constant at F2.8 throughout the zoom range, state-of-the-art optical design, and an 11-blade circular aperture unit all work in harmony to deliver the smooth, deep bokeh that is a hallmark of Sony’s G Lens line-up. Exquisite bokeh brings subjects to the fore.
  • F2.8 in a mobile zoom is great for movies Wide angles, F2.8 in a compact, lightweight zoom that can be easily handheld, and quiet AF can be significant advantages for movies. Minimal zoom extension and center of gravity shift make gimbal or drone mounting easy too. And combined with in-body Active Mode stabilization it can deliver stable handheld footage at wide angles even while walking. It also supports body breathing compensation and metadata recording.
  • Circular aperture with 11-blade iris for naturally rendered bokeh The deep, soft bokeh available with full-frame image sensors is further enhanced by a 11-blade circular aperture and optimally tuned spherical aberration. All of this supports the creation of impressive, memorable imagery.
  • Advanced aspherical and ED glass elements correct spherical and chromatic aberrations Three ED (Extra low Dispersion) glass elements and four aspherical elements that include one ED Aspherical glass element insure corner to corner high contrast and significantly reduce chromatic aberration for sharp reproduction without color bleeding.
  • Dedicated aperture ring, click/de-click and iris lock switches For direct, intuitive creative control when shooting stills and movies, this lens features a full complement of three control rings: focus, zoom, and aperture. The aperture ring click stops can be turned ON to provide tactile feedback when shooting stills, or OFF for smooth, silent control when shooting movies.
  • Comprehensive control and Linear Response MF In addition to three control rings the FE 16-25mm F2.8 G includes a customizable focus hold button and AF/MF switch. Linear Response MF ensures immediate, intuitive manual focus control. Inner focus makes it easy to use rotatable 67 mm filters, such as variable ND types that are often used when shooting movies.
  • Fluorine front element coating The front lens element features a fluorine coating that repels water, oil, and other contaminants, while making it easier to wipe off any contaminants or fingerprints that do become attached to the lens surface.

  • Great Wide Angle

Essentially got this right before going to Crater Lake. It does exactly what I was hoping, but it would be super nice if it was 16-35. Thats my small complaint but that lens costs almost twice as much.

  • Best Value Wide Angle Lens For Sony FF Cameras

This is a fantastic wide angle lens 16 mm on a full frame I would say is varying into the ultra wide arena whereas 25 mm is clearly solidly in the wide angle. I love the fact that it has a 67 mm filter thread so it is the same size filter as the 24-50 f/2.8 G lens so if you’ve bought its counterpart, you don’t have to worry about carrying separate filter sizes. I also love that when I bought this lens a week later it went on sale for $100 off on Best Buy zone website other places too, but I also want Best Buy‘s website and I was able to call in and get a price match over the phone so I didn’t…

  • No lens hood!

Great lens, but missing lens hood and end caps. If you’re buying open box, be sure to do it in store and open before you leave.
